Mimosa Software Ltd. is a privately owned, debt-free Finnish company, which was founded in 1986. This company is dedicated to the development and marketing of high-class school timetable software in all kind of educational and private organizations. The author of this software began to develop school timetable software on various platforms at the beginning of 1980 and published the first DOS-based (Mimosa) in 1985, which was a great success in Finland. It only covered the Finnish and Swedish language versions, however.
The first version of Mimosa was launched in May 1996 and from 1998 onward it began to receive more international attention. Today Mimosa is delivered to thousands of schools and universities in 61 countries on all continents:

The year 2000 was an important turning point in the internationalization of Mimosa. At the beginning of 2000 only 16% of our clients came from outside of Finland, whereas today more than 90% of our clients were from beyond Finnish borders. Today we provide two versions of Mimosa, Single-User and Site License versions of Mimosa. Mimosa Small School Edition, allowing creating up to 100 courses and components, but including all features of the production version, has become popular in small schools. This FREE Mimosa version is also downloadable in more than 100 software directories and has gained many maximum awards, also from the famous Tucows software directory.
The marketing of the software is focused on this website. Most of our clients have found it by using suitable search terms and, after downloading and evaluating the demonstration version of Mimosa, have decided to order it. For us this is a positive indicator that the software sells itself, and so on-site tuition is not required, although we provide it by request.
The number of new countries and the number of clients are currently increasing at a rapid rate and the number of different environments in which the software is being used is proving the software's versatility and flexibility to us. Most of today's users of Mimosa are no longer Finnish schools, although we are the market leader among, for instance, Finnish polytechnic institutes. These institutes often consist of several thousand students and their respective departments. These departments are often located at great distances from each other and may have completely different teaching cultures and requirements which many times include weekly-based and personalized timetables.
Developing and testing Mimosa in this extremely demanding environment is perhaps the biggest secret of its suitability for all types of schools and universities in all countries. The application also supports several Windows actions (Clipboard, HTML, Undo/Redo) efficiently and is easy to use. In order to use it in different language areas the user may configure texts to be printed according to his/her wishes and he/she can also change the language settings while working in so as to print the reports in different languages.
Mimosa has also been used to manage large international congresses of 2000 attendants and 1000 publications, which used only a fraction of its capacity. Another exceptional application environment is the scheduling of inmates. This application can likewise be configured to use workforce scheduling and can handle complicated teamwork tasks such as theater rehearsals.
